According to the preliminary findings of the 2021 population and housing census, which were recently made public by the state’s statistical agency, the population of Cyprus significantly increased between 2011 to 2021, growing by 9.9%.
Cyprus’s government-controlled areas has a total population of 923,272 as of October 1, 2021, up from 840,407 in 2011.
The overall number of households also increased, from 433,212 to 492,555, representing a significant 13.7% rise.
350,824 people called the Nicosia area home, making up 163,239 documented households and 33.1% and 38%, respectively, of all the people who call Cyprus home.
With 155,753 people, the Larnaca district had 82,233 houses (16.7%) of the total.
There were 100,175 people living in the Paphos district, which had 74,498 homes (15.1%) of the total population.
Lastly, the Famagusta district registered 40,280 houses (8.2%) and 54,282 people (5.9%) in total.
Famagusta, out of all the districts, saw the greatest percentage growth in both homes and people since the 2011 census.
Famagusta saw an 18% increase in households, compared to a 16.4% increase in population.
Paphos saw the second-highest population growth, with a growth rate of 13.5% compared to 2011.
In addition, Limassol saw the second-highest increase in households, with a growth rate of 15.4%.
The results of the census give important information about the demographic changes that have taken place in Cyprus during the preceding ten years.
Cyprus’s population expansion accentuates the country’s appeal as a travel destination for both domestic and foreign visitors and highlights the necessity of ongoing planning and development to handle the growing population.
