The beautiful monastery of Stavrovouni stands on the top of a hill called Stavrovouni in the district of Larnaca. The monastery which is 750 metres above sea level, was founded in the 4th century by Saint Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine the Great, who left a relic of the Holy Cross at the monastery.
