The beautiful monastery of Stavrovouni stands on the top of a hill called Stavrovouni in the district of Larnaca. The monastery which is 750 metres above sea level, was founded in the 4th century by Saint Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine the Great, who left a relic of the Holy Cross at the monastery.
Stavrovouni monastery is a peaceful place away from the vivid lifestyle of the city. A great idea is to go hiking at the Stavrovouni mountain and as you reach the top of the mountain you can take a moment to relax and enjoy the amazing panoramic view of the city below. If you are planning to explore the monastery, be aware that only male visitors are allowed to enter into the monastery.
