(CyprusMail) – According to the state’s statistical service, employment in the broad public sector increased by 894 people, or 1.2%, in the second quarter of 2023 compared to the same time in 2022. Also, it went up 0.8% from the first quarter of 2023.

Employment in the Central Government grew by 629 people (1.0%), in Local Authorities by 99 people (2.2%), and in Government-controlled Businesses and Enterprises by 166 people on a yearly basis (2.9 per cent).

The employment rate in Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) specifically increased significantly by 22.4%.

The research claims that the transfer of hourly employees from the Ministry of Health (Government) to the Organization of State is what caused this surge.

Compared to the first quarter of 2023, 596 more people were employed in the general public sector (0.8 per cent).

Moreover, there was a rise in employment of 380 people (0.6%) in the Central Government and 218 people (5.1%) in Local Authorities, although employment in Government-controlled Businesses and Enterprises remained unchanged.

In the second quarter of 2023, there were 73,326 people working in the broad public sector. There were 67,515 people employed by the general government, while 5,811 people were employed by companies and enterprises under government supervision.

The number of people employed by the General Government, which consists of the Government, Non-Profit Organizations, and Local Authorities, was 52,373, 10,625, and 4,517, respectively.
