(CyprusMail) – According to Eurostat, Cyprus’s ice cream exports to non-EU nations have been rising over the last four years but are still considerably below the levels of earlier years.
Imports from non-EU nations have decreased concurrently, according to the data.
Cyprus exported 521kg of ice cream totaling €3,646 to non-EU nations in 2022. In the same year, Cyprus imported 9,467kg worth of non-EU goods valued €53,758.
Due to the small size of the economy, Cyprus, along with Luxembourg and Malta, are exempt from supplying such data, hence Eurostat did not offer information on the total production of ice cream in Cyprus.
But in 2022, Luxembourg bought 169kg and exported 219,595kg of ice cream to non-EU nations. Malta imported 15,042kg and exported 250kg of ice cream during the same time period.
With the exception of 2020, trends over the past four years have shown a rise in exports from Cyprus to non-EU nations and a reduction in imports from non-EU nations.
Only 97 kilogrammes of ice cream, worth €763, was exported from Cyprus to non-EU nations in 2019, compared to 46 kg, worth €173, 386 kg, worth €1,885, and 521 kg, respectively, in 2020, 2021, and 2022.
In spite of inconsistent export volumes, exports from Cyprus to non-EU nations were significantly higher between 2010 and 2018, starting at 18,746 kg in 2010, falling to 3,484 kg in 2012, and then gradually declining until 2016, when exports soared to 17,252 kg, before falling once more to 484 kg in 2017 and rising for a year in 2018 to 4,160 kg.
In terms of ice cream imports from non-EU nations, Cyprus received 72,245kg in 2019, 64,364kg in 2020, about 20,576kg in 2021, and 9,467kg in 2022.
France sold 53 million kilos of ice cream to non-EU nations in 2022, making up 21% of all EU ice cream exports, making it the member state with the highest percentage.
Following France in weight were the Netherlands with 42 million kilogrammes, Italy with 31 million kilogrammes, Germany with 28 million kilogrammes, and Belgium with 23 million kilogrammes.
In 2022, EU nations shipped 250 million kilos of ice cream, valued at €930 million, to non-EU nations. On the other hand, ice cream imports from non-EU nations totaled 61 million kilos and were worth €203 million.
The EU produced 3.2 billion litres of ice cream in 2022, a 5% rise from the year before.
In 2022, Germany produced the most ice cream inside the EU, with 620 million litres, followed by France with 591 million litres and Italy with 571 million litres.
Germany produced the most ice cream in 2022 and also had the lowest average price, at €1.50 per litre. While the average price of ice cream in Italy was €2.30 per litre, it cost €1.90 on average in France.
Austria produced the priciest ice cream, with an average cost of €7 per litre, followed by Denmark at €4.40 per litre and Finland at €2.80.
