The beautiful Byzantine church is located in Larnaca district, in the village of Kiti and it is currently listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. According to the local tradition the church was founded by the residents of the ancient Kition who left their city and moved to Kiti in order to escape the Arab invasions. While the church was under construction, the residents realised that a miracle occurred, because angels were coming down at night to build the church. As a consequence the residents named the church Aggeloktisti which means built by angels.
